Rob Sylvester CFP, CLU, CHS, CEA
With over 25 years of industry experience, Rob has developed extensive expertise in the areas of financial and retirement planning, investment management, life/disability insurance, taxation and estate planning.
Having lived in the US for several years before returning to Canada in 2014, he has also acquired a strong working knowledge of cross-border tax, immigration and estate planning issues.
Rob resides in Mississauga, Ontario and offers comprehensive financial planning advice on a fee-for-service basis, primarily to clients in the Greater Toronto Area. He prides himself on his personable, detail-oriented and client-focused approach.
My work, with respect to estates, typically begins with the pre-planning stage by creating a detailed Estate Plan. I work with my clients to ensure that their intentions for all their worldly assets after their death are properly aligned with the written instructions in their Will and other related documents. This Estate Plan is configured to make everything as simple as possible for the Executor (and beneficiaries) and to be as tax efficient as possible – for both my clients while alive and for their eventual estate after they pass away.
My ultimate goal for my clients is to avoid the necessity of Probate entirely. Probate is a lengthy, complicated, expensive, and often unnecessary process. This goal is not always achievable, for a variety of reasons, but I am always able to reduce the complexity of the estate-settling process when I am involved at the pre-planning stage.
When my services are engaged at the estate-settling stage, I work closely with the designated Executor(s) to ensure that they remain on track and follow the established framework. Settling an estate is a lengthy and complicated process, whether Probate is required or not. I am here to assist my clients complete this very significant task as efficiently as possible, ensuring that everything is completed correctly to minimize their personal financial risk involved with being an Executor.
