As a partner at The Steele Group we apply a time tested approach to financial planning with a combined work experience of 35+ years between our 3 partners. Financial planning is a broad, comprehensive process. It’s this big picture approach that sets professional financial planners apart from all other financial advisors who may have been trained to focus only on one aspect of your finances.
We are wealth managers that have take a lot of time to understand our clients situations.
I
began my career as a High School teacher in 1990 but I soon realized I could
make significant differences in a family’s life when I started marketing
Registered Education Savings Plans in 1992.
Now,
29 years later, I provide a full range of family financial planning services
and I take great pride in helping families with any financial needs they may
have.
I am
now at a point in my career where I can help many families with an especially
important transition. Having the knowledge to help Executors avoid many
pitfalls and make a difficult situation tolerable is another part of my desire
to help people in a time of need.
Wanting to help family, friends and clients motivates me to work hard providing
guidance and knowledge.
I grew up in Stephenville,
Newfoundland and Labrador and graduated from Memorial
University. In addition to being a
Financial Advisor, I am still involved in many sports
including golf and softball. I
reside in Halifax with my wife Donna and my son Alex.

I started my investment career
in 1982 working with Investors Group. In 2014, and with over 30 years of wealth
management experience, my desire to provide unbiased advice for my clients;
coupled with the opportunity to develop an enhanced and healthier financial
approach for individuals, families, businesses, and charitable organizations
across Canada, I moved to Olympian Financial Inc.
Over my career I felt it incumbent
to constantly learn more, therefore I attained my CFP, TEP and CPCA. Each year I
must take Continuing Education courses to maintain my designations.
A significant portion of my
clients are retired. I have many discussions about maintaining control of their
capital but also how they want to ensure that their final wishes can be
accomplished. Quite often people get overly concerned about costs to the estate
such as probate fees and fail to realize that bad planning or NO planning can
cost their estate more than money – it can produce divisions within the family.
A good deal of our discussions revolves around the different powers of attorney
and wills. Many discussions take place over who they should use as trustees for
their estate.
I provide my clients with a holistic approach to wealth
management, regardless of client sophistication. My approach to wealth planning
is always about my clients and their specific needs and goals – now and into
the future. There is just so much more involved with retirement and
wealth transfer. As external influences or personal circumstances change,
we must adjust the plans.
I can also access and offer recommendations
regarding insurance needs for disability, home and life, critical illness and
long-term care and planning. I also provide consultation on tax and
estate issues to snowbirds travelling south, as well as out of country
insurance needs. If clients own real estate outside of Canada, especially in
the United States, there are significant issues that can occur when it comes to
settling an estate.
