My name is Brian McMillan, CLU, CFP, Ch.F.C., EPC, DFP and I am the principal and owner of Team Approach Planning. I have been in the financial services business since 1991. We have developed a network of professionals assisting our clients and referrals find the right solutions to their problems. As our client base ages there is an increasing need to help them deal with new issues, such as their health, family dynamics and estate planning. Our Team Approach has served our clients well. We work almost exclusively by referral. This speaks to the value client's find in using our collaborative approach. I started in the insurance industry in 1982 with Standard Life. I enjoyed dealing with small and medium sized business owners enjoying the tax and legal issues that I could become a coach with them on. I learned as I grew that I needed more knowledge to deal with the financial issues so I took and passed my MFDA licence and also wrote and gained my CLU. I advanced my knowledge along the way by including my EPC and in 2012 went on to acquire my IIROC license to deal with securities directly as well as mutual funds and ETF's. I have over the years been an executor and know first hand how much work it is and feel there is great need to help clients deal with all the professions that are necessary in our complicated work of today. I find I still have that passion to be the "coach" and make a difference to my clients lives.
As a Certified Financial Planner and Elder Planning Counselor, Shawn has been helping Canadians achieve their financial goals for over 25 years. Shawn is a graduate of the School of Business at Queens University and has also taught a variety of financial planning courses at St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus. Shawn has also been a guest speaker at several industry events and conferences and oversees the Essential Financial Planning Services Program.
Mark is president of the Canadian Institute of Certified Executor Advisors (and also of Strategic Edge Chartered Financial Consulting Inc, which provides integrated tax strategies for Canadians through their professional advisors). His career includes senior management positions with national wealth and insurance companies, where he developed innovative business strategies and provided training, marketing materials and case consultation to financial advisors across the country.
A graduate of Ashbury College in Ottawa and Western University in London, Mark is a Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, registered Trust and Estates Practitioner and Certified Executor Advisor. He is licensed to conduct business in every province and territory in Canada.
In addition to CICEA, he is a member of Advocis (the Financial Advisors Association of Canada), the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP), the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
